First Long Canyon, then northward and west...

I went out at about 10:00 a.m. (it had warmed up a bit) and hiked the Long Canyon Trail (off Long Canyon Road) in the red rock country around Sedona. I started out bundled up but soon peeled off layers and it was a lovely walk if overcast and quite cool. I thought of Cissy and Gene (and Tommie) and the times we hiked this trail together--memories.

On the trail, I met Michael from Alberta and Paul from Saskatchewan; Canadians who came seeking warmth and relief from the cold wind, and they got: cold and wind. Michael owns a time share here in the area and returns frequently. Paul is here to scatter the ashes of his wife who died of breast cancer last November. My walk up canyon was solitary but the hike out was collegial and conversational; both soothing and exhilarating. A nine-mile round trip but it really felt easy.

The cold front is supposed to break tomorrow so will migrate northward and see what I can manipulate my way into at Grand Canyon. I did manage to get a room here for 49.00 a night; an accomplishment in Sedona. I'd like to post pictures but the library machines are models lacking the built in ports that accomodate chips. I'll have to pick up a USB converter device. Hopefully pictures to come soon. Love to all,

  1. Sounds like an interesting talk with the Canadians. I love how you can meet interesting people on the trail. How are you feeling about these short walks, versus weeks on end?
